What does F60.5 Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD) actually feel like?

You don't have OCD. You have OCPD. Yes, those are different. No, you should not have to explain this. Yes, you will explain it anyway, probably with a citation. This is the code for the people whose 'I'll just do it myself' is a survival skill, whose checklists have checklists, and whose comfort with chaos sits somewhere between 'limited' and 'I would rather not.' The hat doesn't lower your standards; it just gives the standards a uniform. Pairs well with: color-coded planners, opinions about how the towels should be folded, and a deep, ancestral need for everyone to follow the directions on the box.

F60.5 Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder

Q: What is F60.5 Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD)?

This diagnosis describes a pervasive pattern of preoccupation with orderliness, perfectionism, and mental and interpersonal control at the expense of flexibility, openness, and efficiency. The criteria include preoccupation with details, perfectionism that interferes with task completion, excessive devotion to work and productivity at the expense of leisure and relationships, rigid morality, hoarding worn-out objects, reluctance to delegate, miserliness, and rigidity and stubbornness. Routinely confused with OCD by people who haven't read both definitions side by side — OCPD is ego-syntonic (you experience your traits as appropriate; everyone else is the problem) where OCD involves intrusive obsessions and compulsions the person typically wants to be rid of. Worth noting the label often gets applied to people who simply care a lot about doing things correctly, in a culture that has somehow decided that's a flaw.
